Permanent employee,Full-time· Munich
About the role
We are looking for a motivated and skilled Hardware Engineer with a strong track record in designing complex mechanical systems for high-degree-of-freedom (high-DOF) robotic platforms. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting existing robotic systems to ensure continuous operation, as well as designing and developing robust, next-generation mechanisms for new prototypes.
Success in this position requires a combination of technical expertise, hands-on problem-solving, and the ability to adapt and make sound decisions in fast-paced, uncertain environments.
Your Responsibilities
- Design and develop complex robotic mechanisms, ensuring high precision, reliability, and manufacturability (drawing to part)
- Create detailed CAD models, technical drawings, and assembly documentation for production
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, software, manufacturing) to ensure seamless system integration
- Develop and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM), assembly instructions, and quality control documentation
- Prototype, test, and iterate on mechanical designs to meet performance and durability requirements
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during development and production phases• Stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices in robotics and mechanical design
- Work autonomously on open-ended, evolving tasks
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (3dx) for complex mechanism design
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles (kinematics, dynamics, material selection, and fatigue analysis)
- Experience with actuator selection (motors, linear actuators, torque/speed specs)• Familiarity with sensor integration (force/torque sensors, encoders, IMUs)
- Expertise in gearboxes, linkages, and transmission systems for high-precision robot motion control
- Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping (3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting)
- Knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Understanding of thermal management solutions for high-power density systems
- Ability to perform tolerance stack-up analysis for multi-component assemblies
Beneficial Skills
- Experience in robotics, mechatronics, or automation industries
- Background in designing articulated systems with multi-DOF (degrees of freedom)
- Familiarity with lightweight and high-strength materials (carbon fiber, composites, aluminum alloys)
- Knowledge of dynamic sealing solutions for moving parts in harsh environments
- Experience in integration of electromechanical components (actuators, sensors, bearings, gears, etc) for optimal performance in robots
- Knowledge of structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis to validate designs
Your Profile
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Self-motivated with a passion for cutting-edge robotics technology
- Detail-oriented with a focus on robust system design
- Adaptable to a fast-paced development cycle
What we offer
- Dynamic high-tech startup combined with financial soundness and world-class investors
