The Bavarian State Library has been a respected partner for researchers, teachers and students for more than 460 years. As the central state and archive library of the Free State of Bavaria and a world-class memory institution, we provide a wide range of services for Bavaria as a center of science and research and at the same time perform essential tasks in the provision of information throughout Germany and internationally. With the largest digital database of all German libraries, we act as an innovation center for digital information services and technologies, which we continuously develop together with our users from science, education and culture. With our highly qualified specialist staff, we guarantee an excellent level of service in all areas of work.
The Information Technology Department operates the IT infrastructure and the associated central IT processes of the Bavarian State Library. It plans and develops specialist applications at the interface to the library system as well as various research portals for the scientific community. It is also responsible for supplying workstations with IT technology and operating a support hotline for employees.
The Bavarian State Library is looking for a new member of staff for the Information Technology Department at the earliest possible date.
Fullstack software developer (m/f/d)
in the area of automation of library system-related processes
up to pay group 13 TV-L, full-time, permanent
as reinforcement for the software development team for the automation of processes with interfaces to the library system
Your tasks:

  • Co-support of the cloud-based library management and discovery systems Alma and Primo VE for the Bavarian State Library and the regional state libraries
  • Design, development and integration of REST web services with PHP
  • Application of authentication and authorization procedures, in particular with SAML/Shibboleth (Java)
  • Support and further development of an OAI-PMH server with Java

Your qualification:

  • University or college degree, preferably in computer science, computational linguistics or a comparable field of study

You also have:

  • German and English language skills at least level B1
  • Good knowledge of at least one of the programming languages PHP (preferred), Java (preferred), Python or JavaScript
  • Knowledge of current technologies: REST web services, HTML5, CSS3, RWD and RDF
  • Familiarity with LAMP systems or Java application servers and modern software development methods
  • Experience with the administration of Alma and/or Primo VE
  • Experience in using the Linux operating system on servers
  • Goal orientation, independent work as well as a high willingness to learn and commitment
  • Strong team orientation and a high level of integration and communication skills
