The GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research (Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung), a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, is one of the largest investigation centres in Germany. The laboratory consists of a system of heavy-ion accelerators, storage rings, separators, as well as high-energy lasers. GSI researchers and international collaborators perform basic and applied research in physics and related natural science disciplines. Main fields of study include plasma physics, atomic physics, nuclear structure and reactions research, biophysics and medical research.
The upcoming F acility for A ntiproton and I on R esearch (FAIR), one of the world’s largest research projects, will extend the existing accelerator complex and widen enormously the research area of the laboratory. FAIR is being built in the frame of international cooperation. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity to work together in an international environment with a team of employees committed to ensuring forefront science.
In the department of Superconducting Magnets (SCM) , we are looking for an Engineer or Physicist (all genders) (Kennz. 24.167-6352) for supervision of superconducting magnet production and testing.
Job tasks
The superconducting magnets are under production. The acceptance test will be executed under the responsibility of GSI/FAIR. The successful candidate will be appointed to:
- Supervise superconducting magnet design, production steps, and factory acceptance tests.
- Coordinate experts for design reviews and production inspections, test programs.
- Approve factory acceptance tests.
- Coordinate the transport of the magnet components and related components.
- Coordinate the assembly of the magnet and the relevant systems at FAIR.
- Coordinate the site acceptance tests.
- Control technical documentation, test protocols, and acceptance protocols.
- Communicate with the manufacturer, transport companies, and relevant GSI departments.
- Handle all administrative aspects with GSI administration departments.
Essential Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate should have:
- University Master Degree in physics or engineering (mechanical, cryogenic, electrical or electronics).
- Experience in superconducting magnets and related technical systems, especially operation and measurement techniques, preferably with a focus on mechanics, cryogenics, magnetic field measurements, powering, quench detection and protection, electrical testing, sensors.
- Structured way of working with a high degree of proactivity and responsibility. Good team skills, autonomy, and ability to work under pressure.
