Join CYTENA in Freiburg im Breisgau as an Automation Engineer (m/f/d) and be at the forefront of revolutionizing cell line development. As part of our dynamic team, you’ll spearhead the advancement of our C.STATION — an innovative automated workcell designed to streamline cell line development workflows.

As an Automation Engineer, you’ll be an integral part of our development team, collaborating with software engineers, cell biologists, and fellow automation experts. From conceptualizing customer projects to executing seamless automation steps, validating protocols, and ensuring flawless installations at customer sites, your work will directly impact the efficiency and success of our products.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimize automation workflows for our cutting-edge workcell product, including the integration of 3rd party components to enhance functionality and performance
• Support the evaluation of new technologies, contributing insights and expertise to ensure our automation solutions remain at the forefront of innovation
• Play a key role in on-site installations and system validation
• Conduct preventive maintenance and provide ongoing customer support
• Collaborate closely with our application scientists to pioneer automated cell culture and analysis protocols

Qualifications

• Background in biology, biotechnology, engineering, or related field (college or training).
• Experience in laboratory automation and familiarity with cell culture techniques are advantageous.
• At least basic programming skills, preferably in C#/.NET, with a willingness to learn and adapt.
• Knowledge of pipetting robots and lab scheduling software (e.g., Biosero GreenButtonGo) is a plus.
• Passion for technology and a knack for mastering laboratory equipment.
• Proven ability to work independently with a proactive, results-driven mindset.
• Fluent in English; proficiency in German is beneficial.
• Willingness to occasionally travel to customer sites globally (up to 20%)
