Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, project managers, utility operators, and other stakeholders to integrate safety into all phases of switch-yard and UPD projects.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for switch-yards and UPD facilities to identify potential hazards associated with electrical systems, high voltage equipment, and other operational activities.
- Stay current with local, state, and federal regulations related to electrical safety and environmental protection in switch-yards and UPD facilities.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and codes.
- Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures specific to switch-yards and UPD activities, including electrical safety protocols.
- Communicate safety guidelines to all personnel and contractors.
- Provide specialized safety training to workers involved in switch-yard and UPD operations, including training on electrical safety, lockout/tag-out procedures, and emergency response protocols.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for electrical incidents, fires, and other emergencies.
- Conduct regular drills and training exercises to ensure personnel are well-prepared to respond to emergencies.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of switch-yards and UPD facilities to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to address safety concerns promptly.
- Implement and monitor electrical safety measures, such as proper grounding, insulation, and protective equipment.
- Ensure that workers are trained in the safe handling of electrical equipment and tools.
- Ensure that appropriate PPE is provided and used by workers, including insulated gloves, safety glasses, and arc-flash protective clothing.
- Implement measures to minimize environmental impact, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials, spill response plans, and pollution prevention strategies.
- Investigate electrical incidents, accidents, and near misses to determine root causes and prevent future occurrences.
- Document and report findings to management and regulatory authorities as required.
- Facilitate communication between different stakeholders regarding safety issues in switch-yards and UPD facilities.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability among all personnel.
- Maintain comprehensive records of safety activities, inspections, training sessions, and incidents specific to switch-yards and UPD facilities.
- Prepare and submit regular safety reports to management.
- Continuously assess and improve the effectiveness of the safety program for switch-yards and UPD facilities.
- Implement lessons learned from incidents to enhance safety protocols.
Preferred Candidate Profile:
- Education: Degree / Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
- 1-year diploma in Industrial Safety
- NEBOSH certification
