Lead Electrical Design Engineer (m/w/d)

We are looking for an experienced Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The role is a part of our excellent engineering team based in Heide, Germany. By joining us, you will be a key player and contribute to building one of the first large scale European battery factories.

About the job

You will be responsible for preparing, reviewing or coordinating the electrical design for the Northvolt Drei gigafactory.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Preparation or reviewing of power system studies such as load flows, short circuit studies, arc flash and protection coordination studies and transient stability studies.
2. Preparation or reviewing of electrical equipment load schedules, to size and design the electrical equipment.
3. Gathering the electrical design requirements from the different disciplines.
4. Coordinating between electrical design and other discipline designs including the review and approval of associated electrical drawings.
5. Attendance in inter-disciplinary BIM/model reviews or 2D drawing reviews.
6. Attendance in design meetings.
7. Client representative at FATs for electrical equipment.
8. Creation or reviewing of SLDs, schematics, electrical design procedures, electrical design specifications and associated typical drawings.
9. Technical support to procurement and construction.
10. Client representative during the SAT/commissioning of the electrical switchgear.
11. Creation of the electrical operational procedures.
12. Handover of the electrical plant to the Electrical Operations & Maintenance manager.

Full time employment, fixed salary.

We believe that you have:

1. Bachelors or master’s degree in electrical engineering or chartered electrical engineer.
2. Experience with HV, MV and LV network design.
3. Minimum of 7 years experience in Advanced Manufacturing or similar industry.
4. Fluency in English (German would be an advantage).
5. Computer literacy (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
6. Experience designing power distribution systems to meet demanding requirements on reliability, availability, and maintainability.
7. Understanding of how to utilize the possibilities of integrating a battery electrical energy storage as a peak-shaving and back-up system to optimize the factory power demands.

Bonus points for:

1. Experience using power systems simulation software e.g. ETAP, SKM Powertools, Dlgsilent, ERACS, EDSA, Neplan etc.
2. Good theoretical basis for electrical calculations (sizing of cables, transformers, PFC, motor starting, load studies, load flows, short circuit calculations, harmonic studies, and earth grid designs).
3. Experience from a multi-cultural environment.
