Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research arm of The Walt Disney Company’s (TWDC) Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 150 disciplines, the accomplished corps of Imagineers manage the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships and new media technology projects.
The Production Designer’s primary goal is to ensure that the content and integrity of the concept is maintained throughout the design, production, and installation process. The demands of this role require an in-depth understanding of the creative intent and the ability for realizing it through the execution of the creative process. The Production Designer is the representative of the creative design team interfaces and supports their interests and shares their efforts.
You will report to Manager-Production Design. This position will be on-site in Wismar, Germany and is a fixed-term position through December 2025.
Responsibilities/You Will
- Confirm design interface with Creative, A&E and D&P disciplines.
- Collaborate in overall design process with project team.
- Provide leadership for integration of all show elements.
- Partner with dimensional design team in model efforts.
- Establish priorities and give design direction to Show Set vendors.
- Work with Show Set Lead to develop Design Drawings.
- Confirm scope details in preparation for reviews of all show design documents.
- Determine and direct mock-up and staging efforts.
- Report on design and production progress to schedule and budget to team leadership.
- Oversee design and production progress of Show Set elements.
- Provide day-to-day art direction to production and installation crews.
- Knowledge of available resources and how to use them to meet goals.
- Develop leadership skills to work in team environment.
- Participate in peer review sessions.
- Subject-matter expert in the areas of Show Set production.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a creative environment.
Basic Qualifications/You Will Have
- Experience in theme park design, theater, production, and installation.
- Ability to read construction drawings.
- 3D software program experience preferred but not required.
- Experience managing show set vendors in high-end custom production.
- Hands-on experience with fabrication techniques and/or management of show set fabrication, including welding, carpentry, scenic painting, molding, sculpting, and miniature model making skills.
- Appreciation for an integrated design experience with multiple disciplines.
- Travel may be required.
- Work is first shift but will require second and third shift periodically.
Required Education
- High School Diploma and 7+ years’ experience in design and fabrication.
