Research Assistant Construction

The IAB – Institute for Applied Construction Research Weimar is an innovative and successful business-oriented research institute focusing on the development of new equipment, processes, and materials for the construction industry. With over 100 employees, we have been supporting our partners and customers with practical research and development as well as application-oriented services for 30 years.

For the Department of Mechanical Engineering, we are looking for a research assistant in the field of construction with the option of becoming deputy head of department at the earliest possible date.

Responsibilities

1. Processing and coordination of research and development projects in mechanical engineering as well as in plant and process engineering, in particular in 3D concrete printing, mineral foam technology, and building material recycling.
2. Designing and creating drawings of parts, components, and systems.
3. Collaboration with partners from industry, business, and research.
4. Carrying out design calculations using FEM for precise and functional design.
5. Optional: Supporting the head of department in team management.

Qualifications

1. Completed studies in mechanical engineering with a focus on design.
2. Experience in working with Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD programmes.
3. Professional experience in design is an advantage.
4. Knowledge of FEM calculations and machine dynamics is an advantage.
5. Good written and spoken German (B2) and English (B1) skills.
6. Independent and goal-oriented way of working.
7. Confident demeanour in a business environment.
8. Ability to communicate and work in a team.
9. Optional: Management experience.
