Research Associate for Design of Security Chips

Job Title: Digital Design Engineer
Position: Research Associate for Design of Security Chips
Location: Munich, Germany
Salary Range: 60K EUR – 70K EUR per annum

Client Information:
The main focus of our applied research is the development of application-oriented security solutions and their custom integration in existing systems. The Hardware Security Department is working on all hardware-related aspects of IT security. We are continuously looking for talented researchers with interest and experience in the design of security chips, particularly those with a background in digital design, analog design, electronic measurements, and experience in tape outs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Chip designs of new, open architectures based on the RISC-V instruction set to adapt and harden processors for embedded systems.
  2. Implementation of hardware and firmware for FPGAs and microcontrollers.
  3. Design of analog circuits, systems, and algorithms for Physical Unclonable Functions, tamper detection, and hardware fingerprinting.
  4. Conduct side-channel and fault analyses in the hardware security lab.
  5. Opportunities to publish scientific results and the possibility of working towards a doctorate.

Requirements:

  1. Ability to contribute new ideas within the framework of industry and research projects, with an independent and goal-oriented work style.
  2. Interest in information security and research into secure embedded systems.
  3. Background in at least one of the following domains: hardware design, digital design, analog design, hardware-software co-design, FPGA design, electronic measurements, circuit design, communications engineering.
  4. Familiarity with current instruction sets and architectures of embedded processors, particularly RISC-V, is preferred.
  5. Experience in IT security or cryptography (professional or private) is a plus.
  6. A scientific degree (Master or equivalent) in Electrical and Computer Engineering, IT Security, Computer Science, or a related subject.
  7. German communication skills (at least B2).
