Location: Hamburg | Limited: 3 years | Starting date: earliest possible | ID: FSMA056/2024 | Deadline: 24.01.2025 | Full-time/Part-time
DESY, with more than 2900 employees at its two locations in Hamburg and Zeuthen, is one of the world’s leading research centres. Its research focuses on decoding the structure and function of matter, from the smallest particles of the universe to the building blocks of life. In this way, DESY contributes to solving the major questions and urgent challenges facing science, society, and industry.
For high-end synchrotron radiation applications, the 3rd generation source PETRA III has been available since 2009 as one of the most brilliant hard X-ray sources worldwide, currently operating 23 undulator beamlines for experiments utilizing the extreme source brilliance. The new beamline P25 is being built for innovative industrially relevant applications across several endstations and will also serve as a testbed for new technical developments towards PETRA IV. Commissioning and User experiments are planned from 2025-26.
About your role:
- Support the design, installation, and commissioning of instrumentation at the beamline, particularly the scanning microprobe.
- Support user groups at P25.
- Perform advanced experiments making use of the specific beamline capabilities.
- Involvement in the development of software for data evaluation and experiment control.
- Develop own independent research and participate in collaborative projects with external groups.
