Our Business Area (BA) Markets is looking for the right person to fill the position as
US Power Trader
in the Continental Power Trading department for our office in Hamburg.
Your job as US Power Trader
- Proprietary short-to mid-term power trading with main focus on US power markets PJM & ERCOT and opportunity to trade connected/related markets like Henry Hub with an US power perspective
- Close cooperation with Trading Analysis, other trading desks and support functions
- Develop and extend our US power trading footprint
- Maintaining effective communication within the organisation
- Market analysis, both quantitative and fundamental
- Keep track of the latest market developments
- Adhere to and further develop the company’s trading standards and best practices
- Be part of the Continental Power Trading department and contribute to its commercial success
Qualifications
Your profile as US Power Trader
- Relevant trading experience of at least 3 years
- Sound risk management approach
- Strong fundamental knowledge about the US power markets PJM & ERCOT as well as other US market areas
- Deep understanding and knowledge of the whole energy commodity complex, especially gas
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate with various internal stakeholders
- Decision-making authority and risk taking ability
- Fluency in English (both written and spoken); additional languages advantageous
- Entrepreneurial mind-set with willingness to grow a new business
- Result oriented, independent working method with high reliability and readiness to take on responsibility

Business Area (BA) Markets’ role in Vattenfall is to maximize the value of the overall portfolio by optimizing and dispatching, hedging and sourcing for Vattenfall’s sales and generation volumes. We serve as Vattenfall’s single access to energy commodity markets and trade electricity, emissions, fuels, freight, and renewable certificates. Within Markets the Business Unit (BU) Trading is the energy trading hub of the Vattenfall Group. BU Trading is responsible for all trading activities around Vattenfall´s asset and customer flows to maximize value creation and improve sourcing costs. It provides market access services for the Vattenfall Group – which means managing all hedging flows, from generation assets or customers, by Market Access. Next to handling our flow business, BU Trading also has a proprietary mandate.
