NoOffer DescriptionThe Digital Humanities Lab at the University of Basel is looking for a research assistant (with a Master’s or PhD) as of 1st February 2025 or by arrangement.The Digital Humanities is an interdisciplinary institution at the University of Basel, tasked with coordinating and promoting research, teaching, and infrastructure for questions regarding technological and digital worlds in the humanities and social sciences. It serves as a central institution in Switzerland for the theory and practice of digital humanities and offers a master’s degree and a doctorate in digital humanities.In addition to academic qualifications, the assistant’s tasks include participation in teaching (2 hours per week per semester), academic administration, and cooperation in the supervision of students and scientific projects within the Digital Humanities Lab. The candidate will work closely with Associate Professor Rosa Lavelle-Hill on projects that intersect social science topics and data science/machine learning methods.The ideal candidate will possess a master’s degree or equivalent (licentiate, Magister Artium) and a doctorate (for the post-doc position) in digital humanities, computer science, data science, or a relevant social science or humanities discipline (e.g., psychology, sociology, economics) with demonstrated experience in data/computer science methods and coding.Strong language and communication skills in English are required, and proficiency in German is highly desirable.The PhD assistant position is initially for 1 year with a possible 3-year extension.
