Looking for your next challenge? This is a unique opportunity for an astute 5+ PQE lawyer to take on a critical in-house role that blends strategic thinking with hands-on legal and compliance work.

You\’ll be the lead lawyer and work closely with senior management, the CEO and Board, and key stakeholders to manage legal risk across all business operations. They supply bulk fuel across industry through a strong retail network and operate an advanced import terminal for fuel blending and distribution. The Role

Reporting to the CEO, this is a broad-ranging role that covers:

  1. Legal Advisory: Providing in-house legal advice on a wide range of commercial and regulatory compliance matters, including corporate governance, acquisitions and disposals, services contracts, trade agreements, leasing, employment law, industrial relations, insurance and risk management;
  2. Collaboration: Working closely with Risk, Compliance, and HR teams to ensure alignment on strategic and operational goals;
  3. Leadership: Managing and mentoring a small legal team, fostering growth and development;
  4. Stakeholder Engagement: Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including government bodies, financiers, landlords/tenants, insurers, and external legal advisors;
  5. Risk Management: Overseeing regulatory risk activities, ensuring all policies and procedures are maintained and serving as a member of the Risk Committee.

About You

This role will suit a versatile and agile lawyer with:

  1. Admission as a lawyer, barrister or solicitor of the Supreme Court of a State or Territory in Australia, plus an unrestricted practicing certificate;
  2. Minimum of 5+ years’ equivalent experience in private practice or in-house legal roles;
  3. Broad experience in corporate governance, commercial law, intellectual property leasing (commercial and retail)/property law and employment/industrial law and general litigation;
  4. Understanding of the petroleum and retail industries;
  5. Strong commercial acumen and a solutions-focused mindset;
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including senior management;
  7. Proficiency in managing complex legal risks and ensuring compliance in a fast-paced environment;
  8. Proactive with a demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to deadlines whilst efficiently managing workloads.
