Job Description Summary
The MUSC Orangeburg Emergency Department is a Level III Trauma Center with 43 treatment areas. We are also a level II SAFE designation. We proudly serve the surrounding communities of Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg, and Barnwell counties for all their acute healthcare needs.

Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, assists with patient care within the scope of practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED; Phlebotomy certification and certification as an EMT or CNA; one (1) year experience in a medical setting
Work Environment:
May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases and the risk of blood borne diseases. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to unpleasant elements (accident injuries and illness). Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Must be able to handle emergency or crisis situations. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

Essential Functions:
- Takes vital signs, height and weight
- Performs EKG’s
- Assists physicians or nurses on all procedures
- Takes post procedure vital signs when available
- Monitors telemetry patients.
- Collects various specimens in the appropriate manner.
- Crutch training
- Assists with ordering supplies.
- May perform Bladder Scans and insert Foley Catheters and will assist with elimination needs
- Assists with processing admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Assists with enemas not involving medications.
- Performs staple/suture removals
- Performs Phlebotomy
- Maintains Supply room and O2 tanks
- Preceptor for new Technical Staff
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. Able to stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk and hear.
Lift or exert energy up to 10 pounds 25 % of the time. Up to 25 pounds 25% of the time. Up to 100 pounds 50% of the time.
Must have close vision.
Mental Requirements:
Must possess the ability to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical or technical procedures or regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence and/or manuals. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees, and medical staff.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Deals with problems involving concrete variables and standardized situations.
Populations Served:
This position primarily interacts with all age groups and provides direct patient care. All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related needs of the persons in the assigned work area.
