Job Description

The School of Mechanical Engineering and Safety Engineering, Chair of Materials for Additive Manufacturing, invites applications for a position as Research Assistant (doctoral student) in a research project on Additive Manufacturing of Composite Materials. This position is to be filled as soon as possible for up to 3 years with 75% of the standard working time. Salary: E 13 TV-L.

Professional and personal requirements:

  1. You have successfully completed a university degree in materials science, chemistry or similar, are interested in materials research and would like to gain further qualifications with a doctorate.
  2. Very good knowledge in the field of nanomaterials, and a good understanding of materials science.
  3. First experiences in the realm of additive manufacturing.
  4. Enthusiasm for working in research and skillful handling of complex systems and equipment.
  5. Great care, independence and reliability.
  6. Self-organization skills, ability to work in a team and good communication skills.
  7. Very good English skills (oral and written).
  8. Very good written expression.

Desirable qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of laser material processing and optics.
  2. Basic understanding in CAD and numerical simulation.
  3. Basic knowledge in the field of magnetic materials.
  4. Experience in scanning electron microscopy and associated sample preparation.

Responsibilities and duties:

You will be employed to work independently on a sub-research project in the field of developing new functional composite materials for additive manufacturing. This includes the production of nanoparticles by means of laser ablation in liquids, processing into composites for 3D printing and comprehensive analytics. You will share responsibility for the maintenance of laboratory equipment, take on organizational tasks, regularly attend meetings and exchange information with partners.

Further tasks that await you are:

  1. Documentation, publication and presentation of scientific research results.
  2. Creative development and pursuit of new research approaches in the field of materials development.
