The HCU Professorship of Digital City Science (DCS) researches digital technologies for urban and metropolitan development and applies them in a national and international context. The international and interdisciplinary team develops data-based approaches for the analysis and planning of complex urban systems. With an extensive network of partners, DCS researchers develop pioneering tools used in applied projects and basic research.

You also strategically support our young scientists in startup and transfer activities.

This includes providing GovTech solutions for policymakers and public authorities, transferring technology to industry, and initiating, conceiving, and implementing spin-off and startup projects. You will investigate relevant funding opportunities, draft funding applications, and transfer concepts with others involved in the professorship. You will be primarily engaged in the local Hamburg transfer and startup ecosystem while also disseminating and replicating project results in the international partner network of DCS. Your doctoral thesis and your courses should be in the same subject area to maximize synergies and ensure rapid progress of your dissertation.
