A bit about the role

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Governance, you will lead the Risk Management Team of two, to implement an enterprise risk management framework, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements. Develop and embed a resilience framework to support critical operations during disruptions. Oversee risk identification, reporting, and management activities, including insurance and claims, to promote business excellence across the Council.

What you’ll deliver

  • Provide advice and support to Council business units on risk management, promoting a whole-of-business approach to identifying and mitigating risks and opportunities.
  • Conduct assurance activities, analyse data for emerging trends, and recommend improvements, including legislative compliance and process enhancements.
  • Maintain and update the corporate risk register, oversee insurance and claims portfolios, and manage software systems supporting risk management and reporting.
  • Facilitate risk identification, assist risk owners in developing mitigation strategies, and embed a robust resilience culture for business continuity.
  • Coordinate and support the Audit and Risk Committee, internal audit functions, and reporting, including budgets, policies, and fraud control initiatives.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications or significant experience in enterprise risk management, with an emphasis on strategic and systems-based risk monitoring. Local government experience is ideal but not essential.
  • Proven ability in developing and implementing business continuity strategies, leading internal audits, managing insurance claims, and demonstrating high-level analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong leadership qualities, with a track record of building team capability, influencing, and negotiating effectively across all levels of an organisation.
  • Expertise in engaging with and advising a diverse, multidisciplinary workforce while promoting a positive risk culture and awareness.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex environment, remaining positive, resilient and proactive in addressing risks and embedding robust processes.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check.
  • A curious, collaborative, and inclusive community mindset.
