Greyhound Racing in Queensland is entering an exciting new phase with the merger of the Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club and Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club, forming the Queensland Greyhound Racing Club (QGRC). In early 2025, QGRC will begin transitioning operations to The Q, a new greyhound racing facility in Yamanto, south-west of Ipswich.

The Club is committed to fostering a family-friendly and balanced workplace, offering flexibility in work arrangements to support personal commitments. This role will initially be based at our Brisbane office at Albion Park Raceway and will move to The Q facility in 2025.

About the Role

The Board Member of the QGRC plays a pivotal role in the governance, strategic direction, and overall leadership of the Club. The role involves ensuring that QGRC operates in alignment with its mission, values, and legal obligations while fostering a thriving and sustainable greyhound racing industry in Queensland. Your role will be to provide oversight, guidance, and support, particularly in areas of financial management, legal compliance, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

  1. Participate in developing and overseeing the Club’s strategic plan and objectives.
  2. Provide input into decisions that shape the future direction of QGRC.

2. Governance and Compliance

  1. Uphold high standards of governance, accountability, and transparency.
  2. Ensure the Club adheres to all legal, financial, and regulatory requirements.

3. Advocacy and Representation

  1. Represent QGRC at events, meetings, and industry forums as required.
  2. Act as an ambassador to promote greyhound racing and the Club’s activities.
  3. Strengthen relationships with stakeholders, including members, sponsors, and industry bodies.

4. Animal Welfare and Integrity

  1. Advocate for best practices in animal welfare and ethical conduct.
  2. Support initiatives that enhance the integrity and sustainability of the sport.

5. Collaboration and Communication

  1. Actively participate in Board meetings and sub-committees.
  2. Collaborate effectively with the Chairperson, other Board members, and stakeholders.

6. Membership Engagement and Development

  1. Support efforts to grow and engage the Club’s membership base.
  2. Provide insight into opportunities for member and community outreach.

Time Commitment

Board Members are expected to:

  • Attend regular Board meetings (typically monthly).
  • Participate in sub-committee meetings, as required.
  • Represent the Club at race day events and functions.
