The Position

Position Summary

As an intern in Data Strategy & Delivery in PD Data Sciences, you will spend your time equally between two groups: 1. Data Standards and Governance (DSG) and 2. Data Privacy & Sharing (DPS) Enabling Platforms (EP). This internship position will drive the design, implementation, and governance of industry-wide biomedical data standards from protocol to submission in DSG and contribute to complex data privacy and sharing consultancy issues in DPS. Your educational background in life sciences and interest in clinical research/data science has given you experience in data collection and tabulation standards of safety laboratory data. You should also have a strong interest in data protection/privacy topics and value the reuse of data for further insight generation. You will become a key contributor in the maintenance of the standards for this critical type of data used in every single one of our clinical trials. You will also be a key contributor to the maintenance of data sharing metrics in DPS and other data privacy and sharing projects as needed.

You will need strong collaboration, communication, and project management skills, as well as an entrepreneurial mindset, to evolve the way we collect and deliver data and to develop and deliver medicines for our patients.

Responsibilities/Skills

  1. Contribute to the conceptual design of biomedical data standards from protocol to submission, their governance, and their technical implementation in a metadata repository.
  2. Specialize in the data standards used for the collection of safety laboratory data (hematology, blood chemistry, urinalysis, etc.).
  3. Work within the DPS EP, demonstrating strong teamwork skills and the ability to work independently using your own initiative.
  4. Gain a broad understanding of Roche’s data sharing work and demonstrate an interest in/understanding of basic data privacy concepts.
  5. Engage with clinical trial teams and key business stakeholders regarding impact analysis, risk assessment, cost/benefit analysis, and proposals of alternatives.
  6. Provide specialist advice and support with the implementation of biomedical data standards to all of Biometrics and beyond.
  7. Contribute to continuous improvement of internal work processes and tools, driving a culture based on FAIR data principles across the Roche organization.
  8. Contribute to projects that improve oversight of DPS activities and enable further insights to be generated from clinical data while protecting patient privacy.

Minimum Requirements

You are enrolled at a university or completed your studies within the past 12 months in a life science discipline. Ideally, you already have experience in applying and managing healthcare data, possibly using CDISC (CDASH, SDTM, or ADaM) industry biomedical data standards. You should also have a strong interest in data sharing, data reuse, and data privacy topics.

You have an inner drive for results achieved through an analytical and structured approach. You possess strong critical appraisal skills and are comfortable taking an investigative approach to work. Attention to detail is important to you, and you can positively deal with multiple requests and priorities. You are accustomed to making pragmatic decisions under demanding timelines and feel comfortable in environments of change and ambiguity.

You enjoy your independence while being embedded in global and cross-functional teams. Your excellent written and oral communication skills make you confident in communicating and presenting to all levels of the organization and across organizational boundaries. You do not hesitate to challenge in a diplomatic and collaborative way and generate debate in teams.

This is a global position requiring regular interactions with colleagues at all sites.
