As IP Counsel (f/m/d) with a high degree of responsibility and accountability, you will carry out patent preparation and prosecution for a diverse set of electro-mechanical and computer-implemented inventions, as well as other inventions to drive the energy transition. You will also provide IP advice and counseling on all IP related matters (e.g., patents, trademarks, trade secrets, IP terms in contracts, freedom-to-operate clearances, and legal opinions).
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Provide mentorship on all IP related matters and offer IP solutions that support the business in achieving its goals and objectives.
- Work with inventors and engineering teams, esp. to draft patent applications, to protect innovations and engage with our businesses to build credibility and trust.
- Drive implementation of IP strategies, conduct IP evaluations and manage IP portfolios.
- Conduct effective IP risk management, e.g. freedom-to-operate analyses, validity opinions, other legal advice, etc.
- Review and negotiate IP clauses in agreements and tenders to ensure IP ownership, to secure opportunities and to mitigate risks.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues in our global IP team in other locations as well as with colleagues from our Legal department and liaise with and supervise external counsel (including instructions, quality assessment, cost and compliance control).
What You Bring
- A European Patent Attorney qualification or a German Patentassessor qualification from DPMA; scientific or technical university degree (e.g. informatics/ computer science, engineering, physics, energy related science etc.).
- A minimum of 1 year of professional experience in an IP law firm or legal department of a multinational company, ideally with a focus on software or computer science.
- Experience in implementation of IP strategies, IP licensing/transaction, patent drafting and prosecution, legal opinions, freedom-to-operate analysis.
- Legal expertise in European jurisdictions with knowledge in national, supra-national and international IP laws (e.g., patent, copyright, trademark laws and related fields).
- High level of proficiency in verbal and written English. German and other languages are a plus and excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with intercultural sensitivity and supporting the ability to explain and to solve complex technical, IP and legal matters.
- You have an attitude that aligns with our business goals, a proactive approach, and a collaborative nature. You are driven and able to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
