We are looking for a “Senior Director Government Affairs”, with a focus on Energy Policy and Infrastructure who will support the Chief Executive Office, Siemens businesses and the Government Affairs teams globally focusing on Germany and the EU. The ideal candidate:
- is passionate about shaping the best business environment for Siemens and our customers to advance a smart and sustainable energy infrastructure
- thrives on collaborating with Siemens businesses to support their objectives while engaging with policy makers on regulatory initiatives related to energy, especially with respect to power distribution, smart grids, distributed energy systems and sustainable buildings
- understands and can assess geopolitical drivers and trends and their respective impacts on energy policies and regulation relevant for Siemens
Your New Role – What You Will Do
- You will leverage your sound regulatory expertise and business experience in relevant portfolio elements such as power distribution, smart grids, distributed energy systems and sustainable buildings to shape an enabling policy ecosystem for Siemens businesses
- To achieve this, you will be the liaison between the Government Affairs team and expert functions within Siemens (e.g. Businesses, Technology, Strategy)
- Reporting to the Chief Executive’s Office, you will provide strategic advice on policy issues with direct business impact to political meetings of the CEO and further Managing Board Members of Siemens
- You will use your broad network to support Siemens businesses, engage and partner with policy makers and the tech and regulatory expert community from leading companies, academia and think tanks
- You will use your sound (geo-)political understanding to assess the drivers, the content and potential impacts (risks and opportunities) of energy policy, especially in the industrial B2B context
- You will represent Siemens interests externally in relevant policy fora and business associations
- Based in Berlin or Munich, you will work closely with other government affairs as well as technology, legal, communications, and business functions in Germany, the EU and major global market
Your Responsibilities
- Monitor and anticipate regulatory, market and technology developments related to power distribution, smart grids, distributed energy systems and sustainable buildings, acting as a liaison and “translator” between the relevant Siemens’ businesses, technology experts and the Government Affairs team as well as external partners.
- In collaborating closely with Siemens businesses, you anticipate how regulation is going to impact the Siemens technology portfolio as well as business models.
- Support our businesses in the areas of power distribution, smart grids, distributed energy systems and sustainable buildings to adapt business models to the dynamic policy landscape.
- Plan and coordinate advocacy efforts to address potential roadblocks for a smart and sustainable energy infrastructure.
- Write briefings related to energy policy and technology for Managing Board Members in preparation of political meetings and high-level events.
- Engage with policy makers to provide recommendations, shaping an innovation- and technology-friendly regulatory environment.
Your Qualifications
- You have an excellent master’s degree in business administration, engineering, industrial engineering, political sciences or in a related field of expertise.
- You have many years (at least 5 years) of professional experience in a company of a relevant industry or in consulting.
- You have an astute understanding of regulatory and technological drivers for the energy transformation, especially in Germany and Europe, but also considering global developments.
- Experience in implementing or advising business projects related to energy infrastructure is considered desirable.
- You have a proven track record of building trusted relationships with political stakeholders to foster an openness for technology and innovative solutions.
- You have demonstrated experience in compiling high level briefings for top management in both German and English (both Business fluent) with utmost attention to detail and quality.
- You have a passion for politics and a keen interest in advancing a smart and sustainable energy infrastructure.
- You possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and you enjoy translating complex regulatory and technological issues in political language.
- You have project management skills to drive initiatives, task forces and deliver on tight deadlines.
