For our Institute of Data Science in Jena , we are looking for a:
Computer Scientist, Mathematician, Physicist or similar (f/m/x)
Efficient data management and data processing in distributed computing infrastructures.
What to expect:
The DLR Institute of Data Science in Jena focuses on finding solutions to the major challenges of the digitalisation era. Research concentrates on the areas of data acquisition and mobilisation, data management and processing, and data analysis and intelligence. The „Data Access and Processing“ working group addresses topics in the field of database and data management technologies, particularly in relation to the processing of large amounts of data. These are implemented in DLR-internal and third-party funded projects. The position is established to expand scientific knowledge in the field of efficient data management and high-performance data processing through exploratory research and experimental research. The results are to be applied and evaluated in propulsion technology (aviation) and space weather (aerospace) projects.
Your tasks include in particular:
- Requirements analyses with project partners and users
- Literature research on the state of the art in science and technology
- Development of own, customized solutions for the high-performance provision of model, simulation and observation data
- Evaluation together with project partners and users and continuous improvement of methodology and implementation
- Documenting the results and presenting them at national and international events
- Supervision of students
What we expect from you:
- Completed scientific university degree (Master / Diploma Uni) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other relevant degree programs
- Initial experience in the independent and autonomous processing of complex research tasks
- Practical experience in dealing with database technologies and cloud computing technologies
- Profound programming skills (e.g. C/C++, Rust, Zig, or similar)
- Experience with modern software development processes (e.g. git, Scrum)
- Very good written and spoken English language skills
- Good written and spoken German skills are an advantage
