We’re building out our data and machine learning infrastructure and forming a new data platform team. This role is about driving innovation in data science and machine learning for the business at Thieme, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and leading the development of advanced analytics solutions that have a business impact.

Your new passion

• Lead complex data science projects: Own the end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects, from problem definition to model/solution deployment and monitoring.
• Develop advanced machine learning models: Build and deploy machine learning models, leveraging techniques like deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision.
• Collaborate with stakeholders: Work closely with business stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into actionable data science solutions.
• Mentor and guide team members: Share your expertise and knowledge with junior data scientists and data engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
• Contribute to data platform development: Collaborate with data engineers to design and implement robust and scalable data pipelines and infrastructure.
• Drive innovation: Stay up to date with the latest trends in data science and machine learning and identify opportunities to apply these to solve real-world problems.

You inspire us with this

• Strong technical skills: Proficiency in Python, SQL, and machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn or spacy. You’re comfortable navigating modern cloud data science environments and pipelines on AWS, Google or Azure.
• You have an extensive track record of addressing large-scale real-world problems using machine learning throughout the entire product cycle, encompassing problem analysis, data processing, literature review, production deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• You have experience with NLP, ideally with a focus on latest developments around LLMs and related technologies like RAG, langchain and vector databases.
• Ideally, you have prior domain experience and an understanding of areas such as healthcare or publishing.
• You bring a clear, audience-sensitive style to your verbal and written communication in German and English. Note that your stakeholders will be German, so a B2/C1 level is required.
• You have built and maintained at least one data/ML platform over a long period of time. You’re comfortable with traditional data warehouse architecture, concepts like data meshes and have a well-rounded understanding of BI related data challenges.
