Purpose of Position
Provide direct career development services and instructional programs to students/alumni of all academic majors at NKU. Help students/alumni realize and advance their career and professional goals. Work to scale up career readiness culture across campus. Conduct related research and perform associated administrative duties. Develop and maintain relationships with students, faculty, staff, employers, and others in and around the NKU community.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide individual and group career advising for students/alumni of all academic majors. Help students align career and personal interests in selecting a major. Help students with choosing a career and those considering graduate/professional school. Administer and interpret career-related assessment instruments.
Assist students seeking internships, co-ops, part-time jobs, and/or full-time positions. Assist with marketing the co-op program and counsel students regarding co-op opportunities. Assist with expanding co-op and other experiential learning opportunities for students.
Prepare instructional materials on Career Services, career development, and various elements of the co-op/internship/job-search process. Present related orientations, workshops, and instructional programs. Provide faculty/staff within colleges with training and materials on career readiness and job-search topics which can be shared with students. Teach the career planning course, CEP 101: Career Development , as assigned.
Conduct outreach activities and serve as a liaison between Career Services and appropriate NKU colleges, departments, employers, and student groups. Work directly with specific college(s) and academic departments, as assigned. Initiate and support DEI initiatives.
Supervise student staff, as assigned. Teach student peer coaches how to use tools such as FOCUS 2 and Handshake and how to provide appropriate information/feedback to students. Teach peer-advising techniques so peer coaches can meet independently with students and present workshops/programs on career and job-search topics.
Assist in the administration of career fairs, on-campus recruiting, and related events. Coordinate specialized career events on campus, as assigned.
Be familiar with all Career Services policies and procedures, and maintain an ongoing awareness of all programs and activities. Participate in appropriate professional development activities. Assist in the day-to-day operation of Career Services. Perform other duties as assigned.
Develop and maintain familiarity/expertise with both print and online resources pertinent to the career interests of students. Become knowledgeable of career services management software (Handshake) and assist in reviewing job postings, as assigned.
Qualifications
Master’s degree required. Prefer a degree in higher education administration/student affairs, counseling, psychology, human resources, public administration, or related field and a minimum of one year of relevant experience in career services, career counseling, academic advising, human resources, or related.

- Strong work ethic and high initiative, including the ability to self-direct and prioritize.
- Comfortable planning and executing events/programs.
- Flexible/adaptable with solid problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Some familiarity with career assessments such as FOCUS 2, SII, etc.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software, using Internet applications, and basic knowledge of career services management software (e.g., Handshake).
- Willingness to work some extended hours, including some evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Some management experience, including supervision, evaluation, and mentorship of student staff.
