Key Tasks and Responsibilities
As part of the Team, you will have the following responsibilities:
- Dissemination operations and engineering for EUMETSAT missions;
- Scheduling and coordination of daily operations of the dissemination systems;
- Monitoring the dissemination and encryption functions within the EUMETSAT Ground Segments, including performance monitoring and in the case of anomalies, the identification and application of first-line corrective actions;
- Perform anomaly investigations;
- Provision of support, as required, to critical and/or special operations;
- Contribute to the design, development, documentation, and maintenance of specific tools/scripts identified from operational needs;
- Generation, maintenance, and update of dissemination operations-related design, user documentation, procedures, or operations guides, for example as a result of a system update or a validation activity, in accordance with the established EUMETSAT Operations Department configuration management and quality assurance practices, and corporate working practices;
- Acquire and maintain an operational view of the dissemination and encryption functions of the ground segment, as well as a system-wide understanding of its interfaces with multi-mission elements (MMEs) and external interfaces;
- Support the analysis and resolution of user inquiries related to dissemination services, in particular, but not limited to EUMETCast end-users;
- Respond to calls by telephone outside normal working hours, and provide remote support to Operations.
Skills & Experience
You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience:
- University degree (or equivalent) in a related field of space, spacecraft engineering;
- 3 years experience of basic system administration, i.e. configuration, installation and shell scripting for Linux and Windows;
- be familiar with satellite system ground segment operations;
- Experience in major Linux distributions and Windows (Windows 10 or later) as a user;
- Computer analysis skills, including analysis of events and logs, and be familiar with Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Word;
- Be familiar with configuration control;
- Able to communicate effectively in English (verbally and written);
- Conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work under pressure and with a minimum of supervision;
- Providing near real-time data services in a high-availability environment (24/7);
- Experience in interaction with external partners;
- Experience in coordinating of system changes or interfaces with external organizations;
- Experience in Data Integration, i.e. using tools for designing and implementing complex data flows which interface with external systems using various file transfer protocols (ftp, ftp-s, sftp, ssh, http(s), etc.);
- Experience in interaction with end-users via email, phone, remote terminal access, or other online tools;
- Experience in supporting end users in application software upgrades and application software configuration changes under Windows and Linux;
- Experience in preparing user guides, FAQs, and other documentation in a user-friendly style;
- Have excellent document writing skills;
- Be familiar with DVB satellite communications and IP multicast over DVB and WANs;
- DVB based receive-only earth stations for satellite communications.
