The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is looking to appoint an outstanding individual to a:

Tenured Professorship in “Spanish and Latin American Literary and Cultural Studies”

(W2 salary)

within Philosophical Faculty II, Institute of Romance Philologies. The position will commence as soon as possible.

The duties of the professorship span the entire spectrum of Spanish-language literary and cultural studies, whereby the applicant’s research duties should focus on the field of Latin American studies. Teaching responsibilities include the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at the Institute of Romance Philologies, Spanish education (Lehramt), the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Intercultural Europe and America Studies (IKEAS) and the master’s degree program in Literary Studies offered by the Philosophical Faculty II.

The applicant is expected to collaborate closely with other departments of the faculty for the purposes of research and teaching and to help further develop the interdisciplinary orientation of the faculty. Particularly desirable is a candidate who will actively cooperate with the “Politics of the Enlightenment” Research Training Group at the Interdisciplinary Centre for European Enlightenment Studies (IZEA) as well as a candidate who will orient their work toward the university’s focal points “Sustainability” and/or “Transformation”, to be understood as literary and cultural studies that incorporate sustainable developments, complex processes of change and the interconnections between cultural, social, ecological, economic and political factors.

The candidate should have experience acquiring third-party funding. It is also desirable for the candidate to have knowledge of French-language literary and cultural studies and/or those of another Romance language. Engagement for the internationalisation of teaching and research, particularly for the expansion and maintenance of contacts in Romance-language countries, is expected.

Further duties and responsibilities are stipulated in section 34 of the Saxony-Anhalt State Law of Universities (teaching, testing and other mentoring). Applicants need to fulfil the pre-conditions of appointment as stipulated in section 35 of the Saxony-Anhalt State Law of Universities. Particular emphasis is placed on a Habilitation in the relevant field, or an equivalent level of scientific achievement and recognition. Candidates are expected to have attained the appropriate level of experience or qualification in teaching.
