Machine Learning Engineer For Sony Advanced Visual Sensing
Location: Zurich, Switzerland
We offer an exciting position as part of a small R&D team which develops algorithm prototypes and solutions for future Sony sensors. You’ll be working with innovative, unreleased technology and get an opportunity to influence the future roadmap of Sony Semiconductor Solutions, the world-leading image sensor company. Investigate and demonstrate the value of new sensor designs across a diverse range of applications and use cases such as mobile photography, video, automation, AR/XR/VR, and more.
Our team, being acquired in 2019 by Sony, strives to keep its startup spirit alive with a culture of curiosity and high engagement. In this position, you will develop algorithms to exploit the characteristics of new sensors in close collaboration with the colleagues that design those sensors.

Responsibilities:
- Research, develop and implement new algorithms to prototype and validate commercial applications of Sony sensors.
- Work together with the team to improve and future-proof our processes, software and tools.
- Collaborate closely with our computer vision, AI and hardware experts for best system performance and help develop the sensors of the future.
- Develop deep insights into how the world can be understood through photons.
- Coordinate developments within a multi-cultural work environment that spans engineering sites from Japan, Europe, and North America across the Sony Group organization.
Qualifications:
- MSc or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar field.
- Proficiency in Python and optimally additional programming and scripting languages.
- Applied experience with Computer Vision and/or Deep Learning algorithms from previous positions, internships or academic projects as well as a solid theoretical background.
- Experience (preferably industry experience) with modern software development methodologies and principles, such as CI/CD, containers, SOLID, etc. as well as MLOps frameworks and tools.
- Confident communication skills and fluency in English.
- Ambition to continuously learn and improve.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with various sensing modalities such as conventional CMOS cameras and the corresponding processing stack, event-based cameras, LIDAR, ToF, IMU, structured light etc.
- Experience in technology transfer, bringing technology from R&D to market, be it through experience in a startup or a product-focused corporate R&D department in a relevant area.
The position is within the Sony Advanced Visual Sensing (AVS) group which is an R&D center of Sony Semiconductor Solutions based in Zurich, Switzerland and a former spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) and the University of Zurich. We develop novel computer vision algorithms, vision sensors and sensing systems based on our world-leading sensing expertise, including event-based cameras, CMOS cameras and more.
