A leading pan-European private equity firm is seeking a Principal to join its investment team in Germany. The firm manages over €2.6 billion in assets, with a strong focus on mid-market investments across sectors such as consumer & leisure, energy transition, industrials, TMT, business services, and healthcare. Typical investments range between €75 million and €200 million of equity, including co-investments. The firm has a proven track record in the DACH region, having executed multiple transactions since its first investment in Germany in 2015, and is now looking to strengthen its German investment team.

Position Overview:

As a Principal, you will work closely with senior leadership to originate and execute private equity transactions in the DACH region. This role involves leading deal execution, portfolio management, and value creation initiatives, as well as guiding junior team members. The position is ideal for an experienced private equity professional with a strong track record in mid-market leveraged buyouts and growth investments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deal Origination & Execution: Partner with senior leadership to source and execute new investment opportunities in Germany and the wider DACH region.
  • Transaction Management: Lead all aspects of the investment process, including due diligence, valuation, structuring, negotiation, and execution.
  • Portfolio Oversight: Work closely with portfolio company management teams to drive operational improvements, strategic initiatives, and value creation.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and support Associates and Senior Associates, providing guidance on financial analysis, valuation, and investment theses.
  • Governance & Board Representation: Serve as a board representative for portfolio companies, ensuring strategic alignment and performance tracking.
  • Market & Sector Analysis: Conduct in-depth market research and competitive analysis to identify attractive investment opportunities.

Key Requirements:

  • 6-8 years of experience in private equity, growth equity, or leveraged buyouts, with a proven track record in deal origination, execution, and portfolio management.
  • Strong M&A transaction experience, ideally from a leading private equity firm, investment bank, or top-tier consultancy.
  • Deep understanding of mid-market investments and value creation strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex transactions and manage deal teams.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a strategic, results-driven mindset.
  • Fluency in German and English is required; additional European languages are an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with management teams, investors, and internal stakeholders.
