Applications will be accepted Wednesday, January 15, 2025 12:00 AM – Friday, May 30, 2025 6:00 PM (Central Standard Time) EL – SPL Speech Language Pathologist Teacher 2025-2026 Job Description Speech Language Pathologist Teacher – Elementary PreK-4th Grade PEL Required with Speech Language Pathologist Endorsement Salary and Benefits per PGTA contract Effective 2025-2026 School Year, August 18, 2025 SUMMARY: To provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to all children who have been referred for evaluation, or qualify for speech-language services, as a result of deficits in speech and language development. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned. Identification and evaluation of students with speech and language disabilities. Provision of a formal report regarding results of diagnostics for presentation at eligibility meetings. Participation in the determination of eligibility for special education and related services for students deemed speech-language impaired. Participation in teacher/parent conferences including domain reviews, eligibility meetings and IEP meetings. Development and implementation of IEPs for all students eligible for speech and language services. Monitor student performance as required with quantitative data collection as indicated on individualized educational programs. Provision of consultation to parents, teachers, students, administrators and other professionals regarding speech and language programs. Act as a liaison between the home and school by assisting in interpreting the speech and language program to parents. Provision of classroom instruction in the area of language development. Completion of required documentation and reports in accordance with state and federal laws and the district’s child find obligations. Participation on referral teams and in PPS meetings regarding student concerns as needed. Assist in in-service training of staff in the appropriate areas. Facilitation of curriculum and instructional modifications. Attend staff, professional and inter-agency meetings. Assist in in-service training of the staff in the appropriate areas. Attend professional workshops and/or conferences to maintain current licensure or school certification. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field. Demonstrates collaborative problem solving. Communicates in an effective, constructive, and positive manner with staff, students, and parents. Interacts positively and effectively with school personnel, including administrators, teaching staff, and clerical personnel in order to be an effective team member. Is able to be flexible and work across educational environments. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises CFY speech pathologist when placed within the district. Supervises student teachers/interns in speech pathology when assigned. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Masters Degree or Higher in Speech Pathology or Communicative Disorders. Valid and current Illinois Teaching Certificate, Speech Pathologist, (Type, 3, 9, 10 or 73). State Licensure as a Speech Pathologist. ASHA certification (if acting as a supervisor to speech pathology interns or CFY speech pathologist). LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to the building principal, assistant principal, colleagues, and other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to work with students who have been identified as having minor to moderately to severely handicapping disabilities. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
