Purpose Of Assignment:

This role is being established to increase the capacity of the Audience and Market Insights (AMI) unit, specifically to enhance the actionability of research and insights. The focus will be on supporting research related to high-value and hard-to-reach audiences. Four key areas have been identified:

  1. Onboarding: Review 5-10 strategy-related historic material. Conduct 12 to 17 one-hour onboarding meetings with core stakeholders, including the AMI team, High-Value Audience (HVA) income channels, and priority market teams.
  2. High Value Audience Brand Tracker: Contribute to research planning (market selection, questionnaire amendments, vendor liaison), insights identification (lead analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and facilitating insights-to-action sessions. This will be done under supervision and in partnership with the High Value Insights Manager.
  3. Research to Show: Contribute to research planning (including market selection, questionnaire amendment, and liaising with the vendor), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and asset development (supervision of creation of public-facing assets by design specialists or select vendors). This will be done under the supervision of, in partnership with, and support from the High-Value Insights.

Scope Of Work:

Under the supervision of the High-Value Insights Manager, the Market Research Consultant will be responsible for:

  1. Working with the vendors identified for the research projects described above to ensure research is executed to the appropriate standard and quality.
  2. Supporting the High-Value Insights Manager in working sessions with income channel teams or markets, both globally and regionally.
  3. Supporting the High-Value Insights Manager in analysis and presentation creation related to the areas described above. High-quality analysis and an engaging insights narrative are expected to resonate with a diverse group of stakeholders who may not be familiar with this type of information.
  4. Apply a deep and sophisticated understanding of how to support the application of insights in a multifaceted, global organization to generate meaningful action.
  5. Supporting AMI in leveraging the information gathered from the areas described above.

DELIVERABLES/OUTPUTS

Deliverable 1 by: 15 June 2025

  1. Review historic materials (5-10 strategy-related documents); participate in 12 to 17 one-hour onboarding meetings with core stakeholders (AMI team; HVA income channels; and priority market teams).

KPIs:

  1. Develop a keen understanding of core High-Value Audience insights users and their needs.
  2. Identify areas for additional learning or where additional information is needed for completeness.
  3. Identify teams or business problems that would benefit from specific action and implications workshops.

Deliverable 2 by: 31 October 2025

  1. Contribute to research planning (including market selection, questionnaire amendments, and vendor liaison), insights identification (lead analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and insights-to-action facilitation (organization, preparation, and facilitation of working session with end users of the research). This will be done under the supervision of, in partnership with, and with support from the High-Value Insights Manager.

KPIs:

  1. Produce material for and conduct 3-5 working sessions with participating markets.
  2. Deliver 3-5 implications grids with clear actions for each team.
  3. Validate and customize research findings in the High-Value Audience Brand Tracker for EAP regional and local market needs.

Deliverable 3 by: 31 October 2025

  1. Contribute to the research planning (including market selection, questionnaire amendment, liaising with vendor), insights identification (leading analysis of various markets or sub-audience groups), and asset development (supervision of creation of public-facing assets by design specialists or select vendors). This will be done under the supervision of, in partnership with, and with support from the High-Value Insights Manager.

KPIs:

  1. Develop narrative-driven documents that engage non-data-literate audiences to support the creation of 3-5 assets.
  2. Arrange meetings with key stakeholders (TBD) for input at key milestones.

Education:

  1. A first level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or higher), in cultural studies, communications, psychology, marketing, political studies, development studies, or related.

Experience:

  1. Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional work experience market research, insights, and strategy.
  2. Strong experience in data analysis and turning data into insights is required.
  3. A deep and sophisticated understanding of how to support the application of insights in a multifaceted, global organization to generate meaningful action is required.
  4. Strong command of quantitative, qualitative, and secondary research methodologies is required.
  5. Research method neutrality is required.
  6. Experience in navigating multi-stakeholder environments and achieving alignment and consensus is required.
  7. Experience working in an international environment is desirable.

Language:

  1. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an asset.

Remarks:

Please indicate your all-inclusive (lump sum) fees against the deliverables listed above, including all associated administrative and travel costs (if applicable), in the cover letter. The office selects the individual based on best value for money.

Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
