Meet the team behind this journey
We are currently seeking a dynamic leader to oversee our Intellectual Property, IT & Innovation (III) and Privacy teams, which collectively consist of eight reports. This pivotal role involves managing and safeguarding intellectual property rights, overseeing IT licenses, and ensuring compliance with technology and innovation laws. The successful candidate will partner with our product and technology teams on product development and with marketing on all activities and play a pivotal role in guiding our approach to the rapidly evolving global regulatory landscape surrounding AI.
Your Responsibilities
- Oversee the III Team, determining our strategic approach to the management of intellectual property rights and compliance with technology and innovation laws, while fostering a culture of leadership and accountability.
- Lead the Privacy Team in providing guidance on data protection and privacy law, including data flows, tracking, and incident responses, while mentoring team members to enhance their capabilities.
- Provide strategic legal advice on privacy matters across the UK, EU, US, and Asian markets to internal stakeholders, demonstrating visionary leadership in navigating complex regulatory landscapes.
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Research and Go-To-Market teams to support the development of AI products and features, promoting cross-functional teamwork and innovation.
- Oversee marketing activities to ensure compliance with UK and international laws and regulations, instilling a proactive compliance mindset within the teams.
- Ensure that DeepL stays ahead of new and changing legislation, advising on potential impacts for the company, determining strategic approach to compliance and engagement with lawmakers and the industry and supporting the implementation of legal requirements.
- Help shape the company\’s long-term strategy on product development, AI, IP, IT, innovation, data protection, and privacy, aligning legal strategy with business goals.
- Lead in creating and updating internal procedures, policies, and guidelines to reflect best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Drive and oversee training sessions for business and technology teams on relevant legal topics, empowering teams with knowledge and skills.
- Provide proactive legal advice, fostering ownership and accountability aligned with company culture while managing risk effectively.
- Inspire teams by setting clear directions and fostering professional growth through coaching and feedback, while effectively managing a diverse team across multiple locations and time zones.
- Promote open communication and teamwork, demonstrating strong judgment in high-stakes situations and navigating change effectively to ensure team agility.
