The Department of Evolutionary and Integrative Ecology at the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB, ) invites applications for a Data Analyst focusing on genomic and ecological data. The position will be located in Berlin-Dahlem. It will also include managing and analysing large datasets and supporting IGB’s Competence and Technology Platform on Research Data Management.
Your role
- Process and analyse genomic and molecular data from environmental samples and non-model organisms
- Manage and analyse experimental and field data
- Write data management plans and support researchers in the department to implement these plans following best practices
- Support IGB research teams as a member of the IGB Research Data Management group
- Apply and support the development of data visualisation tools
Your profile
- University degree in bioinformatics, computational ecology, statistics, computer science, data science, or equivalent expertise, including from the private sector
- Competence in R and one or more additional programming languages (e.g. Python, C++, C#)
- Experience in data mining, scholarly databases, and the management, curation and analysis of data following FAIR data principles and Open Science practices
- Very good English communication skills; German skills desirable
- Excellent social skills, service orientation and ability to work in an international and diverse team
- Prior knowledge of freshwater science is advantageous

We offer an international and dynamic work environment located in our new Joint Biodiversity Building in Berlin-Dahlem. This is a full-time position, but it is also suitable for part-time work. You will be paid according to the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD Bund) and benefit from flexible working hours, a 39-hour work week, 30 days of vacation, a company pension scheme, and a subsidy for public transportation. The contract is initially limited to two years with the option of permanent employment. The salary class will be based on qualifications and assigned duties.
