The Automated & Intraday Trading desk is the central commercial hub at RWE Supply & Trading GmbH for all continental European algorithmic and intraday activities in power markets. Additionally, a large and continuously expanding portfolio of systematic strategies in spot markets is managed by the traders. Being a pioneer in intraday and automated power trading, the desk runs a holistic and complex algorithmic framework that continuously trades RWE’s large storage portfolio consisting of hydro and sharply increasing battery flexibilities as well as conventional assets, renewables power, and 3rd party flow.
Taking full commercial and discretionary ownership, the traders of the Automated & Intraday Trading desk constantly explore new trading opportunities across various countries and markets while also challenging, refining, and further developing the current portfolio of various optimisation and trading strategies. As part of a dedicated team of experts in short term trading, you will sit at a fascinating and thrilling trading desk in the energy industry and accelerate various growth projects in terms of product and country expansion of one of Europe’s leading energy trading houses. Consequently, the Automated & Intraday Trading desk plays a key role in paving the way for RWE’s ambitious goals in energy transition and digitalisation.
As our new (Senior) Trader Automated Trading you will work together with three Algo Traders. In addition, you will closely collaborate with the desk’s Intraday Shift Traders.
- Taking daily commercial ownership of RWEST’s algorithmic intraday and systematic portfolio in the spot tenor across several European power markets, especially Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, France, and Scandinavia
- Leading the desk’s complex in-house algo software and, thus, being responsible for hundred thousands of daily order operations and their underlying timing and execution decisions on power exchanges such as EPEX SPOT and Nord Pool Spot
- Managing large asset options as well as positions of short flex such as outages or sudden updates in renewable production while constantly pursuing the target to outperform the market
- Exploring, developing, and challenging asset-based as well as proprietary trading strategies with state-of-the-art technology and facilitating the improvement and expansion of the desk’s area of responsibility
- Identifying and implementing optimal solutions to extract maximal value from RWE’s flexible asset fleet in highly volatile liquid and illiquid markets.
- Driving new market entries as well as new product implementations with internal and external stakeholders such as power exchanges
- Be part of an agile SCRUM working environment and collaborating with software engineers of the desk’s dedicated automated trading IT Squad
- Strong commercial and analytical mindset in a fast paced trading environment
- High professionalism in managing large (asset) options and continuous position updates as well as in out-performing market benchmarks
- Ability to understand trading opportunities and risks quickly, to handle a vast set of changing data, and to turn ideas into solid and profitable commercial actions
- Profound entrepreneurial spirit and structural thinking to explore and evaluate new trading strategies and business opportunities beyond the current portfolio
- Pragmatic decision making together with a communication style that could narrow down complex topics to the most relevant points
- Sophisticated resilience in negotiations and discussions with counterparties and stakeholders as well as among the traders
- Excellent team player across locations, trading desks and support teams
- Experience with trading software and/or trading on exchanges in general
- Broad conceptional and statistical skill set. Experience in back-test analysis for trading and hands-on proto-typing
- In-depth knowledge of option theory and market microstructure mandatory as well as financial behaviour
- SQL, R and/or Python
- Academic background in business administration, economics, maths, data science or similar
Advantageous, but not a must
- CQF, PhD or similar qualifications
- Experience in Tableau
- Advanced German skills
