People from across 20 disciplines are working within the Faculty . Along with the disciplinary approach a very ambitious interdisciplinary research culture has been developed. The faculty's research and teaching focuses on social, economic, political and educational issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society.

The Department for Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences at the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) at the University of Luxembourg aims to understand fundamental aspects of human cognition and behaviour, and how these relate to societal and individual-level challenges. The BayesCompare project is a FNR funded project on Bayesian comparisons between artificial and natural representations to improve our understanding how natural and artificial intelligences process information. The project is led by Heiko Schütt and will employ one PostDoc and one PhD student.

About the role… You will develop new Bayesian methods to compare models to neural data. You will test the methods to guarantee their statistical properties and apply them to evaluate state of the art models of human visual perception.

You will use the insights to improve the evaluations of models and the models themselves. You will package effective methods to make them available to other researchers. Your profile…

PhD in cognitive science, neuroscience, data science or a related field Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research & research methods Strong analytical skills and a collaborative mindset Experience with (Bayesian) statistics, deep neural network models, Kernel Methods, or data science Experience with neural data analysis (fMRI, MEG/EEG, Calcium imaging, or similar) Experience with programming, especially in Python & neural data analysis tools in it In return you will get… Multilingual and international character.
