With approximately 1,400 employees, Sachsenforst ensures sustainable and ecologically oriented forest management. The National Park and Forestry Administration of Saxon Switzerland operates within Sachsenforst, serving as a nature conservation authority in the national park region.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site Research and Monitoring role located in Bad Schandau within the National Park and Forestry Administration of Saxon Switzerland. The Research and Monitoring Referent/-tin will be responsible for coordinating and managing conservation-related monitoring and research activities. The role includes:
- Leading project management and development for research and monitoring initiatives in the national park.
- Developing and implementing the monitoring concept, focusing on ecosystem observation, Natura 2000 conservation status, and socio-economic aspects (e.g., visitor counts and acceptance studies).
- Acquiring and managing third-party and internal research projects, including supervision of doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s students.
- Coordinating and analyzing biotic and abiotic data collection efforts, including long-term ecological monitoring and sample inventories.
- Collaborating with biological research institutions, NGOs, and government agencies at national and international levels.
- Contributing to scientific advisory boards and working groups related to research and monitoring in protected areas.
- Preparing reports on national park conditions, visitor trends, and conservation outcomes for policymakers and the public.
Required:
- Master’s or diploma degree in Biology, Ecology, Conservation, Forestry, Landscape Planning, or a related environmental science field.
- Strong ecological knowledge of key species and environmental factors relevant to the Saxon Switzerland National Park.
- Experience in scientific data collection, analysis, and application.
- Demonstrated ability to work conceptually and scientifically.
- Proficiency in applied statistics and data analysis.
- Excellent German and English language skills (spoken and written).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, databases, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Valid Class B driver’s license and willingness to conduct fieldwork in challenging terrain.
Preferred:
- Experience in securing, managing, and reporting third-party-funded projects.
- Expertise in analyzing biological data for conservation applications.
- Knowledge of flora and fauna monitoring programs.
- Experience in research planning and coordination within protected areas.
- Familiarity with social science research and citizen science projects.
- Specialization in at least one key wildlife group relevant to the region.
- Experience in supervising staff, students, or volunteers in a scientific context.
- Familiarity with the Saxon Switzerland National Park.
- Knowledge of procurement regulations.
- Proficiency in Czech is an advantage.
