Tasks

As an experienced Front-end Engineer, you will take on a key role in driving the growth of our .jOS SaaS platform, as well as in the strategic planning, implementation, and continuous optimization of our digitalization solutions. You will play a crucial part in enhancing efficiency and ensuring the security and stability of our systems. With your strong team spirit and innovative mindset, we offer you the opportunity to actively shape the digital future of journalism together with us. You will be responsible for, among other things, the following tasks:

• Utilizing modern front-end technologies and system architectures (e.g., microservices, reactive programming, serverless) to develop scalable and efficient applications
• Willingness to work with, learn, and adapt to our current tech stack, including Node.js, TypeScript, React, NextJS
• Ensuring high code quality through best practices, clean and maintainable code, and thorough code reviews to support scalability and sustainability
• Integrating third-party APIs and delivering robust, low-latency APIs for front-end applications and other consumers (e.g., crawlers), focusing on performance optimization
• Engaging in DevOps processes with a strong emphasis on automation and high-quality code (e.g., trunk-based development, infrastructure as code, multi-level test automation)
• Mentoring and supporting junior team members to enhance their skills and contribute to the team’s success
• In an agile environment, you’ll work closely with domain experts, the editorial team, and the development team, benefiting from a strong network that supports you through all challenges

Requirements

• Strong intrinsic motivation and determination for personal development
• Proven experience in software engineering (5+ years), with a strong focus on front-end technologies, ideally on top of a degree in computer science or a related field (e.g., mathematics, physics)
• Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure and distributed systems, with the ability to work within complex, custom code-bases in large-scale, high-availability environments
• Solid experience working with modern front-end technologies, particularly React.js and Next.js, and their integration with backend systems
• A passion for understanding the underlying business objectives and user experiences driving the development of software systems, ensuring technical solutions are aligned with business needs and deliver value to end users
• A strong team player who can actively collaborate, provide feedback, and contribute to guiding colleagues through shared development efforts and technical discussions
• Very good written and spoken German and English as well as an open-minded attitude towards other cultures
