For permanent employment, the Optical Systems department at OHB System AG in Oberpfaffenhofen is looking for an Optical Engineer/ Technical Supply Manager (m/f/d). Your main task as technical supply manager will be to coordinate and technically drive the external development of optical subsystems for present and future European and global space projects. In this role, you shall be responsible for the technical interface to technical managers in house, customers and subcontractors for the relevant project. You shall closely cooperate with other technical disciplines (structural, thermal, mechanical, AIT, systems engineering). Furthermore, in your role as optical engineer, you will be involved in optical system design, analysis, realization and verification.
Your Tasks
- Technical Supply Management
- Technical interface to supplier and subcontractors to guide and monitor their development activities
- Establish and coordinate the work flow from subsystem perspective to the various engineering disciplines within OHB
- Definition of technical specifications and requirements for optical systems, subsystems and equipment
- Establish subsystem concept(s) in line with system architecture and upper level requirements
- Support subcontractors selection and negotiations
- Controlling and monitoring of the technical progress of the subcontract(s)
- Participation in technical reviews of subcontractors
- Technical assessment of non-compliances together with OHB engineering team
- Report to instrument systems engineering and project managers
- Optical Engineering
- Design, analysis, tolerancing and simulation of optical systems (optical and opto-mechanical systems, subsystems, equipment and OGSE) from early concept phases up to detailed design
- Definition of optical verification strategies
- Support on system level and perform on sub-system level the opto-mechanical integration, alignment, characterization and test activities in clean rooms, as well as bread boarding in the optics lab
- Presentation of the results of your work in internal and external meetings with the customers
- Definition and conduction of trade studies to support optical design decisions, support in the generation of proposals and planning for future projects
- Establish and maintain the technical documentation related to the optical and opto-mechanical tasks
Your Qualifications
- University degree or equivalent qualification in optics, physics, engineering or related technical discipline
- Experience with coordination of technical tasks with sub-contractors as well as internal engineering teams
- Knowledge in the development of space optical instruments, especially in the field of telescopes, spectrometers and interferometers within an industrial environment
- Ability to quickly establish rapport, build trust, and develop working relationships with other team members, customers and vendors
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural and multi-language team
- Ability to work simultaneously in different projects
- Organized and structured attitude and process-oriented thinking
- High degree of motivation and personal identification with the respective task and project
- Excellent English skills, both written and verbal
- Experience with optical design software (e.g. ZEMAX or similar)
Optional Skills
- Experience in space-flight industry, preferably with ESA or DLR projects
- Experience of working in clean room environment from ISO5 to ISO 8
- Knowledge of MATLAB and Python
