The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society. The school offers master's programmes, executive education and doctoral programmes, distinguished by interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching, as well as outstanding research. Its extensive international network positions it as an ambassador of good governance, characterised by public debate and engagement. The school was founded in 2003 by the Hertie Foundation, which remains its major funder. The Hertie School is accredited by the state and the German Science Council.
The Centre for Fundamental Rights and the Algorithmic Fairness for Asylum-Seekers and Refugees (AFAR) Research Project seek to fill the position of Associate Communication (gn) on full-time basis (40 hours/week). The contract shall commence as soon as possible and is limited for 18 months. The successful candidate will be based at the Hertie School Berlin as a member of the School's Centre for Fundamental Rights. The AFAR research project is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation as part of its "Challenges for Europe" programme.
Your tasks:
- Development and implementation of communication strategies for both the Centre for Fundamental Rights and the AFAR project, in close collaboration with Centre Manager and project PI;
- Media outreach on behalf of the Centre and AFAR, including social media accounts and traditional media (press, TV).
- Content creation and editing for the Centre and AFAR websites (Typ0 3) and media channels, including regular updates of websites to include news items on research, teaching and outreach events.
- Content creation for traditional media on the Centre's research, teaching and outreach.
- Creation of newsletters, management of external relations database, and distribution of newsletters.
- Organisation of Centre events and events of the AFAR project, in particular AFAR Science Communication events.
- Development and drafting of AFAR policy briefs in coordination with the research team, dissemination.
- Implementation and documentation of AFAR Science Communication Strategy.
- Coordination with external partners for AFAR Science Communication activities (e.g. with web designer, animator for short videos, NGOs).
- Support the conceptualisation and implementation of the AFAR podcast and other media content.
All above listed tasks will be carried out in close coordination with the Centre Manager and in the case of AFAR with the PI. Reporting directly to the Centre manager.
Your profile:
- University degree in communications or related field.
- Ability to run social media accounts and analyze analytics.
- Good organisational skills and ability to work independently.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills, German language skills are an asset.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Experience in text editing.
- Familiarity with current debates in human rights, in particular new technologies and human rights.
