Key Tasks and Responsibilities

As part of the Remote Sensing and Products (RSP) Division, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Development, implementation and maintenance of operational scientific data algorithms and product processing software to derive geophysical parameters from remote sensing data;
  • Specification and prototyping of new processing concepts for altimeter processing chains;
  • Contributing to operational processor evolution and maintenance activities;
  • Validation of altimetry prototype and operational products;
  • Quality assessment and monitoring of altimetry products;
  • Supporting the commissioning and cal/val of altimetry missions;
  • Applications of satellite data in meteorology, oceanography, and atmospheric composition;
  • Scientific document writing.

Skills & Experience

You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience:

  • University degree in physical remote sensing, meteorology, oceanography, physics, IT/Computational Science, or equivalent;
  • Extensive professional experience in system engineering, development, implementation, and operation of Earth Observation products processing systems;
  • Algorithm specification/development for scientific, meteorological and remote sensing missions;
  • Knowledge of established radar altimetry instrument processing systems, e.g. ERS RA, ENVISAT RA-2, Cryosat SIRAL, Jason-1/2 Poseidon, Sentinel-3 SRAL;
  • Experience in processing, analysis, and cal/val of altimeter data;
  • Experience with operational scientific data processing implementations would be an advantage;
  • Experience in interfacing with scientific organizations and user communities would be an advantage;
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
