About the Structural Biology of Inflammation Group

Inflammation is the first line of defense protecting our bodies against various infections and damages. However, when dysregulated due to mutations, environmental factors, or lifestyle, inflammation can cause more harm than good. Chronic inflammation is linked to pathologies such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegeneration, cancer, and many other modern diseases. The Andreeva lab focuses on structural and functional aspects of inflammatory pathways underlying these pathologies. Using a combination of structural, biochemical, and cell-based approaches, we aim to comprehensively explain inflammatory pathways from the molecular to cellular level, which is crucial for clinical applications and the development of novel anti-inflammatory treatments, as well as next-generation cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, which are the main goals of the iFIT Cluster of Excellence \“Image Guided and Functionally Instructed Tumor Therapies (iFIT)\“ consortium.
