Duties and Responsibilities
- Works in an independent and efficient manner to review, interpret, analyze, draft and negotiate research-related agreements, including those for federal and industry-sponsored research, within established legal, financial and risk management guidelines and templates.
- Fosters and maintains mutually beneficial relationships with corporate biomedical and healthcare sponsors.
- Provides high quality and timely service to Principal Investigators, while maintaining a balance between LUC, LUMC and industry interests for the public good.
- Negotiates extensions and/or amendments to existing agreements.
- In coordination with LUMC, secures approval of legal, financial and risk management departments, as necessary, to finalize any agreement terms outside of established guidelines and templates.
- Maintains systems that log, track and report the status of outstanding agreements to University leadership, Principal Investigators, and all other interested constituents at LUC and LUMC.
- Maintains files for all agreements within LUC, research, sponsored program and contract administration policies and/or guidelines.
- Manages multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment and meets timelines.
- Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Bachelors degree required. Advanced degrees and/or certifications in healthcare and/or legal-related fields, such as JD, MHA, paralegal, etc., are preferred but not required. Five to seven (5-7) years of experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements with at least three (3) years in an academic setting required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree required.
- Advanced degrees and/or certifications in healthcare and/or legal-related fields, such as JD, MHA, paralegal, etc., are preferred but not required.
- Five to seven (5-7) years of experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements with at least three (3) years in an academic setting required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must be a skilled negotiator with a track record of success.
- Must have working knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including but not limited to FDA, GCP, HIPAA and ICH.
- Must have working knowledge of intellectual property, indemnity and other university-industry clinical trial provisions.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Ability to write clearly and informatively.
- Ability to meet challenges with resourcefulness.
- Ability to develop innovative approaches and ideas.
- Must exhibit sound and accurate judgment.
- Ability to support and explain reasoning for decisions.
