Position Summary

The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student's field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.

Job Description

The Graduate Assistant will work with and report directly to Dr. Sarah Daynes who is the Faculty Fellow for Policies and Operations within the Graduate School. The Graduate Assistant will provide Dr. Daynes with administrative and research support, as described below.

Job Duties and/or Responsibilities:

  • Support the Faculty Fellow in surveying and meeting graduate student and graduate faculty needs, including activities such as interviews and focus groups.
  • Build relationships with graduate students and serve as a peer mentor.
  • Help organize events in support of graduate students and faculty.
  • Advertise scheduled events and create digital flyers.
  • Communicate program information with enrolled graduate students.
  • Recruit students to participate in scheduled events.
  • Attend scheduled events whenever possible.
  • Assist in research data collection and analysis related to graduate schools' policies and practices, including research on line, literature review, survey, data coding, and other research-related tasks.
  • Provide additional research and administrative support to Faculty Fellow as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for appointments as a graduate assistant, you must:

  • Maintain academic good standing at all times (3.0).
  • Be enrolled full-time, which is generally a minimum of 9 credits.
  • Make satisfactory progress toward your degree as defined by your academic program and the Graduate School.
  • Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the U.S.
