Position Summary
The Assistant Director will have direct oversight of Online Orientation for fully online degree-seeking students, new transfer student transition and engagement programs, marketing and communications for the department, and provide logistical support for 1GNITE/NAV1GATE. This position will provide support and oversight to the Coordinator for Your First Year (YFY) who is responsible for all YFY programming, marketing, and assessment. Represents the department at University events, such as SOAR and Admissions events. This position will supervise 1 Coordinator for YFY, 1 graduate student, and undergraduate students, and coordinate volunteer groups. The assistant director will also represent the department on a variety of campus-wide committees, particularly University Pro-Comms. This position is responsible for managing several funds and evaluating programs for student impact, ROI, and improvement planning. This position reports to the Associate Director of New Student Transitions within the New Student Transitions and First Year Experience department.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree from a four-year university or college in the area of higher education administration, college student personnel, student development, or related field
- 2 years post-masters experience creating, planning, implementing, and evaluating all program and event sizes and levels of complexity, preferably in student success or student affairs in support of new students
- 1 year of direct budget management experience
- Ability to develop and implement presentations and workshops to diverse audiences
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of a team
- Experience supervising undergraduate or graduate students
- Basic knowledge of technologies, including texting and mass email platforms, social media platforms and management systems, Adobe Suite, desktop publishing, and virtual program/webinar platforms, such as Zoom
- Be available and willing to work irregular office hours during certain times of the year
Key Responsibilities
- Online Orientation for Online Students (30%)
- Manage the planning, implementation, communications, assessment, and improvements of onboarding and transition of online programs for fully online degree-seeking students, including online orientation and online YFY Success Series programs.
- Build and maintain relationships with campus partners who support online degree-seeking students.
- New Transfer Student Transition and Engagement Programs (25%)
- Develop, plan, and facilitate virtual SOAR programs in a virtual platform/webinar, in coordination with the Associate Director for NST.
- Implement tailored transfer-specific programming at SOAR.
- In coordination with the Coordinator for YFY, ensure transfer students' needs are met through the YFY Success Series and communications such as the First Year Connect Newsletter and social media.
- Co-Advise Tau Sigma Honor Society.
- Serve on Transfer Student Appreciation Week Committee.
- Marketing and Communications (25%)
- Develop marketing and communications strategy for NST&FYE.
- Project management for all graphics and video needs, including UNCG brand guide, training staff, and approving assets for compliance and ADA/accessibility requirements.
- Maintain a knowledge base of campus-wide marketing opportunities.
- Serve on Social Media Managers/Pro-communicators groups.
- SpartanConnect management for department.
- Student Programming (10%)
- In coordination with the Senior Director and all NSTFYE staff within the operations of the overall 1GNITE and NAV1GATE and other student programs, take the lead on program components:
- Logistics for the annual class photo which includes load-in, dismissal, staging, reservations, and NAV1GATE swag distribution and post-event usage of photo.
- Volunteer recruitment, training, and staffing.
- Design and order signage for both programs.
- Event marketing and communications include email, text, mobile app, and social media.
- Administrative and Supervision Duties (10%)
- Supervise 1 full-time Coordinator for Your First Year.
- Supervise 1 Graduate Assistant for SOAR and Your First Year Communications.
- Budget oversight for Online Orientation and Tau Sigma.
- Provide support to the Associate Director for New Student Transitions and other departmental programs and services as needed.
- Other duties as assigned to ensure the fulfillment of the New Student Transitions & First Year Experience mission.
