Job Summary:

The Communications Coordinator provides project leadership for communications initiatives (e.g., digital, print, audiovisual, and social media projects) for the HIV Implementation Science Coordination Initiative (ISCI). Manages specific communications projects across the entire Initiative, including its Sociostructural Implementation Science Coordination Initiative (SISCI), and ensures that projects meet Initiative goals. Serves as the ISCI communications editor, developing and executing a communications content strategy that supports the ISCI brand position. Assists with dissemination outreach efforts for the Initiative by creating infographics and booklets, developing outreach strategies, and promoting HIV implementation science best practices.

Project Description:

ISCI is the national coordinating and technical support center for the 99+ CFAR/ARC (Centers for AIDS Research/AIDS Research Centers) research-practice partnerships funded as part of the HHS Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) plan. EHE recognizes that we have all the tools to end the epidemic in the U.S.; however, significant implementation challenges remain that prevent people from accessing these tools at the right time. The aims of ISCI are to identify, collate, and disseminate shared measures and best practices related to implementation research frameworks, outcomes, determinants, and strategies in HIV. The service aims are to work with funded regional Hubs to provide training and support, resources, and expert consultation for academic researchers and practice-based partners on funded HIV projects around implementation science.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage communications initiatives for ISCI, ranging from web communications, content development, training documents and resources, audiovisual creation, publication management, and social media.
  • Lead and advise Initiative on the development of effective communications strategies; manage and execute projects as assigned.
  • Organize, structure, and design tools that convey and simplify complex information for diverse audiences such as researchers, public health departments, community-based organizations, etc.
  • Research, compile, and disseminate external events and media related to implementation science and the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative.
  • Produce, test, and deploy specific communications tactics, such as email newsletters.
  • Create communications and educational activities, training videos, infographics, events, presentations, marketing, etc., that build partner relationships and encourage collaboration.
  • Coordinate the development and dissemination of collateral materials such as videos, programs, posters, invitations, etc.
  • Promote Initiative using broadcast email, websites, social media, advertising, etc.
  • Analyze information and recommend metrics to determine success of communications initiatives.
  • Create associated reports.
  • Serve as the primary communications editor for the Initiative, determining communications content strategy.
  • Assess that communication meets visual and content brand requirements.
  • Serve as liaison to communications staff members at the Third Coast CFAR, Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing, Center for Prevention Implementation Methodology for Drug Abuse and HIV, and other university departments and programs.
  • Support Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing (ISGMH) communications as needed, such as marketing events and writing web stories.
  • May oversee consultants or interns as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as communications/marketing, social sciences, journalism, healthcare, public health, or related field; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience developing digital content in an academic, public health, or corporate environment, including experience with content planning, creation, dissemination, and maintenance.
  • Prior experience as a health or science communications practitioner implementing digital strategies or content strategies.

Minimum Competencies:

  • Excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Demonstrated strategic communications/marketing skills.
  • Demonstrated communications/marketing execution skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in content marketing, including broadcast email and social media.
  • Demonstrated experience in event marketing.
  • Demonstrated experience in basic video editing and graphic design.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in communications, marketing, or social sciences.
  • 1-2 years of work experience developing multimedia marketing plans inclusive of offline media, digital, content, and events.
  • Experience working in implementation science, program evaluation, and/or quality improvement.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Interest or experience in working on LGBTQ issues.
  • Interest or experience in working in HIV prevention.
