The Position We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join the Immunology Discovery group of the Cardiovascular Metabolism and Immunology Department . The successful candidate will investigate the molecular pathways that drive the regeneration and function of human alveolar cells in homeostasis and under inflammatory disease conditions. Research will focus on targeting Wnt and other signaling pathways using novel pharmacologic modulators to uncover novel synergistic interactions. The overarching goal is to gain a deeper understanding of the fundamental processes of lung regeneration in the context of disease and to devise novel therapeutic strategies. Key Responsibilities – High-throughput culture of human alveolar and airway organoids – Investigating the impact of disease-relevant perturbations to identify conditions that recapitulate the disease molecular state – Phenotypic and molecular characterization using techniques such as immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) – Using pharmacological modulators to understand pathways involved in alveolar cell regeneration and differentiation – Investigating how modulating the identified signaling pathways can impact the function of alveolar progenitor cells under disease conditions Qualifications – PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Pharmacology, or a related field – To be eligible for a Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship, you must be within the first four yrs of completing your PhD in a relevant field at the start of the project – Strong background in cell signaling, particularly Wnt pathways, and experience with organoid culture systems – Proficiency in high-throughput screening techniques and data analysis is desired – Experience with genetic engineering and iPSC technology is desirable – Proficiency in computational analysis and data interpretation is highly desired – Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team This position is sponsored by the Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme . The RPF Programme has the ambition to build and maintain the Scientific Leadership of the future and to provide leading Roche scientists with the opportunity to collaborate with talented postdoctoral researchers, and leading academic research groups, from around the world. One of the key aims is to advance basic science and technologies that will be published in top-rated, peer-reviewed scientific journals, if necessary preceded by priority patent applications. More information about the RPF Program can be found here. The duration of the RPF project is initially set for two yrs, with the possibility of extension for a third year. You will be based in Basel, Switzerland. The start date of this fellowship is on availability. Please clearly indicate your preferred starting date in your motivation letter.
