Offer Description
CMS
Area of research: Scientific / postdoctoral posts
In the particle physics division, a platform for scientific computing has recently been launched to foster collaboration on software and computational methods across the different research groups. One emerging topic is the exploitation of heterogeneous architectures by portability libraries that allow a single code base to be used on CPUs or GPUs from different vendors. The CMS experiment is in progress to port existing software and is developing new software for the upgraded detector components to be capable to exploit GPUs employing a portability library. Experiences gained during the development and the validation are also of interest for other projects, e.g. Key4HEP, a software framework that is being widely used by studies for future colliders.
About your role:
- Porting and developing modules in the CMSSW and Key4HEP software stacks using a portability library
- Assessing the performance of the code and validation of results
- Reaching out to the developers of the portability library and other user communities
- Contributing to knowledge transfer and training material
- Carrying out your research and development projects, e.g. CMS data analysis or future collider studies
About you:
- Finished PhD in particle physics or adjacent field or equivalent qualification
- Knowledge of portability libraries (e.g. Alpaka, Kokkos, SYCL) is a plus
- Self-guided to acquire recent knowledge and methods
- Strong interest to learn new techniques and programming languages
- Very good knowledge of the English language, both written and spoken
