- act as technical focal point between engineering and other organizational functions (Customer, Project Management, AIT Management, Product Assurance)
- coordinate the integrated technical effort and the engineering interfaces via the Work Breakdown Structure, System Engineering Management Plan and Engineering Work Plan
- ensure that all necessary technical engineering tasks are defined, planned and resourced
- establish and maintain the instrument-level technical baseline including requirements, constraints, designs, assumptions, interfaces, resource allocations and team responsibilities
- coordinate the analysis of the customer requirements, the definition and evaluation of the instrument-level requirements and verification and break-down to subsystems ensuring consistency and exhaustiveness
- coordinate the assessment of the instrument-level compliance considering lower level compliance status
- provide technical contributions to Project Management for balancing technological needs versus non-technical interests, e.g. for time- and cost-planning or for coordination and support of subcontractors
- provide technical contributions to project risk management
- manage and lead project- or instrument-level technical reviews
