Position Summary
Security Electronics Systems Apprentices are entry-level employees responsible for installing basic electrical and electronic equipment. Under supervision, they will gain experience with hand tools, power tools, electrical blueprints, and the National Electrical Code (NEC). Apprentices are expected to work towards becoming qualified journey-persons or technicians by attending related instruction courses, being punctual, and participating actively in their training.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing for cable pulls with minimal assistance
- Pulling cables such as RG6, Cat5e, and fiber optics
- Terminating cables using various connectors and methods
- Testing cables with appropriate equipment
- Mounting devices like door contacts, relays, and cameras
- Interpreting blueprints to determine cable routing and device placement
- Applying ESS codes and standards for tasks such as mounting and terminating cables
- Identifying different cable types and their applications
- Recognizing various connectors and their uses
- Installing cable raceways and pathways
- Making conduit bends and offsets as needed
- Maintaining safety, quality, and attendance standards
- Interpreting wiring details for installing field devices
- Assisting in testing ESS field devices
Requirements
- Ability to obtain a US DOD Top Secret security clearance; candidate will undergo a security investigation
- High School Diploma or GED
- Reliable transportation
- Successful background check and drug screening
- Enrollment in an accredited apprenticeship program such as IEC or ABC; vocational training preferred
Physical Requirements
- Lifting at least 100 pounds at once and 60 pounds for extended periods
- Carrying a 12-foot ladder independently
- Working at heights up to 60 feet and climbing scaffolds, lifts, and ladders
- Performing physical activities like walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching regularly
- Good vision (corrected if necessary), color vision, hearing, and communication skills in English
- Using ladders and tools within weight limits
- Recognizing potential problems and understanding general rules for problem-solving
- Identifying details at close range and understanding spoken instructions
Note: Proof of vaccinations such as flu shots may be required based on customer requirements.
