You will join the Computing Support (CS) section within HSE’s Transversal Services group, contributing to the development, integration, and support of specialized software and systems, including web applications and databases related to safety activities and the design, development, and maintenance of CERN’s radiation and environmental protection systems.FunctionsAs a technical lead & software engineer, you will develop and support web applications and databases that enhance safety at CERN, including applications for personal dosimetry, safety inspections, chemical safety, and radiological risk classification. You will also support the integration of commercial software used by the HSE Unit.In your role, you will:Design and implement database and web application architectures.Lead development projects, coordinating with team members and CERN stakeholders.Support, maintain, and operate existing software and commercial solutions.Investigate operational issues in collaboration with end-users and IT teams.Drive performance optimization initiatives.Share knowledge with software engineers across CERN.Engage with end-users to gather requirements and develop technical solutions.Develop procedures and tools to improve software quality, including automation and continuous integration.Implement system updates aligned with latest technologies and organizational standards.Mentor junior developers to foster their professional growth.QualificationsMaster’s degree or equivalent experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.ExperienceExtensive experience in web application development, including UI, backend, and data management.Experience in stakeholder management, user support, and requirements gathering.Proficiency in software development lifecycle practices: testing, CI, version control, documentation.Experience supervising teammates.Knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, React, REST APIs, testing methodologies.Designing user interfaces and experiences.Database design with Oracle or SQL.Software testing, diagnosis, and optimization skills.Familiarity with DevOps tools and procedures.Structured approach to work, with strong organizational skills.Commitment to continuous learning and knowledge sharing.Ability to work effectively in teams and adapt to changing priorities.Autonomous work ethic, initiative, and proactive attitude.Fluent in English, with a willingness to learn French.Eligibility and deadline:CERN values diversity and encourages applications from all Member and Associate Member States.
