NOC Engineer

Job Description

1. Performs initial fault isolation and actively troubleshoot and diagnose problems.
2. Keeps business owners informed of status and estimated time to repair.
3. Participates in tracking and prioritization of ticket handling, including inter-shift turnover.
4. Assists in the rapid assessment of both the nature and severity of problems and initiates calls to various support organizations as needed.
5. Performs fundamental Windows Server and Unix system admin tasks.
6. Performs initial tier 1 troubleshooting techniques to resolve incidents in regards to Network, Telecom, Server, Back-up Environment, and Data Center related facilities.
7. Escalates using official escalation procedures when appropriate.
8. Responsible for executing the daily, weekly, monthly operational monitoring and reporting tasks.
9. Participates in 24/7/365 (3) shift rotation including weekends and holidays. (This is a shift position from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM. )
10. Shift schedule is an irregular work week.
11. Receives incoming customer calls for trouble and technical support.
12. Uses monitoring applications such as Client Business Service Manager and Network Node Manager to monitor systems, network and infrastructure.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
14. Be able to work overtime with little to no notification.
15. Creates and maintains documentation for processes and procedures.

Qualifications

1. PC savvy – NOC experience can be taught. Must have aptitude.
2. Performance monitoring applications (any will work).
3. Working knowledge of basic Windows Server and Unix system administration skills.
4. Strong written and verbal communications skills.
5. At least 1 year experience working in a NOC or similar environment.
6. Basic knowledge of internet protocols such as TCP/IP and Domain Name Service.
7. Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
8. Must be a self-starter, should be able to work independently and without supervision if required.
